If a Tree Falls in a Forest and No One Is Around, Does It Even Make a Sound?

Die Ausstellung vereint drei neu in Auftrag gegebene Klangarbeiten in einer Abfolge von drei Einzelpräsentationen. Louis d?Heudières, Lise Lebleux und Jakob Spengemann ergründen Klang als immaterielles bildhauerisches und narratives Material. Klangwellen besitzen eine physische Präsenz, die für menschliche Augen nicht sichtbar ist, deren Verhalten sich aber bspw. durch den Echoeffekt nachvollziehen lässt. Neben unserem Gehörsinn können wir sie in sehr tiefen Frequenzen auch deutlich körperlich wahrnehmen. Der Schall lässt sich analog zum Fotografischen als ein klangliches Abbild eines auslösenden Moments begreifen, der sich wellenartig durch Raum und Zeit verbreitet. Die physikalischen Grundbedingungen des Mediums werden in der Ausstellung mit metaphysischen Fragen nach Erzählfunktion, Wahrnehmung und Produktion von Klängen verknüpft. The exhibition combines three newly commissioned sound works in a sequence of three individual presentations. Louis d?Heudières, Lise Lebleux and Jakob Spengemann explore sound as an immaterial sculptural and narrative material. Sound waves possess a physical presence which is not visible to the human eye. Their behavior, however, can be perceived, for example, through the echo effect. In addition to our sense of hearing, we can distinctly discern them physically in very low frequencies. Analogous to photography, sound can be conceived as a sonic image of an initiating moment, which spreads in a wave-like motion through space and time. The basic physical conditions of the medium are linked in the exhibition with metaphysical questions about narrative function, perception and the production of sounds.
